Sustainable philosophy

Overview

We live in a culture today where the things we buy are to be consumed and thrown away with a very short life cycle. The textile industry today needs to go through massive changes, strive for a more transparent culture and put sustainability and ethics at the core of its values. Sgrinhouse aims to bring craft and modernity together in order to create beautiful, durable and timeless fabrics that do not put a burden on the environment or on people. With the studio located in a coastal fishing village, there is even more importance to be transparent in the print workshop.

Greener than green Packaging

At Sgrinhouse we strive for the most ecological packaging possible. Our packaging film is fully compostable, 100% recycled cardboard is used in all our packaging, we use recyclable Kraft paper tape, recycled paper in both packaging and stationary and All fabric rolls are end of line deadstock, which are  recycled from local fabric suppliers and reused.

Saying no to wastage

All fabric off-cuts are kept to a minimum.

Cushions are sized to minimise wastage and Most orders are printed to order therefore no wastage is necessary.

Longevity through quality

All fabrics are of the highest quality, from designing a timeless print, to hand printing onto the finest Linen.

This craftsmanship creates beautiful and durable fabrics which will last a lifetime.

All products that are used in our print process are non toxic and ecological friendly. These including eco-pigment inks, water based binders, non toxic emulsion and plant based cleaners.

These are an ecological alternative to plastisol inks, which contain heavy chemicals and plastics and toxic chemicals that drain into our water ways.

No Toxic chemicals

Sustainable Linen

Sgrinhouse uses high quality Irish linen that is woven in a family run mill in the heart of the Irish countryside. They strive to keep tradition and luxury alive. Linen is made from flax which is a more sustainable alternative to cotton production, which has unfortunately  become a burden on the environment as well as using unethical labour. Linen requires less water in production, maintains soil quality, and is bio-degradable in its natural form. Being grown in europe (GOTS labeled) and woven in Ireland we can ensure the labour is also ethical.
